Urmi Roy Magoon
Artist Bio
From an early age Urmi wanted to be an artist so she earned BFA from Delhi College of Art, India in 1996. She truly started living her dream two decades later, in 2016. In the intervening years she worked in the booming IT industry as a Graphic Designer/UI UX expert working on several exciting projects in various companies. The skills she learnt during her time in IT are valuable when creating digital artwork and understanding social media content.
Her process changes and adapts constantly as she avoids being predictable and repetitive. Even though her current work is mostly acrylic, her first show was in watercolors. She believes that an artist should not limit themselves to any medium and be in constant experimentation and learning mode. Self Expression is everything!
Travel is always inspirational for her, so when her family moved to Munich, Germany for 5 years. It recharged her vision of being an artist. She dug deep and found the courage to finally show her work on a public platform in collaboration with other artists in 2018. She has since gone on to show her work in Venice, New York, Sweden and Singapore in the last few years. The pandemic didn't stop her from continuing to create art and exhibiting too. Instead it was another opportunity to gather one's thoughts and go forward.
She enjoys sketching wherever in the world she goes with her little sketch book. This gives her an opportunity to really observe her surroundings and learn more deeply about the people, cultures, weather, food, traffic and even the sounds.
